Who should get a lip filler treatment?
The decision to get a lip lift is personal and subjective, and it can be an empowering treatment that boosts confidence for those who want it. A lip filler treatment is a great option for anyone who struggles with thin lips or wrinkles on the lips, whether that’s due to genetics, age, smoking, or sun damage.
Lip fillers are safe and suitable for most people at the hands of experienced practitioners like ours at Araya Beauty and Aesthetic Clinic. In a pre-treatment consultation, our practitioner will ask about your medical history including any allergies, health conditions, or medications that may affect your ability to get dermal fillers.
Preparation before your lip augmentation procedure begins:
In the week prior to your treatment, please avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers (aspirin, ibuprofen) and herbal supplements (fish oil, St. John’s wort, vitamins A-E) as these can increase the risk of bruising. Alcohol and caffeine are also natural blood thinners that are best avoided in the days leading up to treatment. If you have any cold sores, you should postpone your treatment until they have cleared up.
Before your Juvederm lip filler appointment, it’s also important to set your expectations and consider what kinds of results you want. You can bring a photo of your desired results, or at least have a clear idea in your mind of what you want so you can describe it to our practitioners.
When your appointment begins, our practitioner will take photos of your face and lips, measuring their size and shape and mapping out where the injections will take place.
At Araya Beauty Clinic, we use only Juvederm brand hyaluronic acid (HA)-based lip fillers, which are the safest fillers favoured by the aesthetics industry for their versatility and unlikelihood to cause any allergic reactions.
What to expect during a lip filler procedure:
Our experienced practitioner will start by applying an anaesthetic cream to your lips, which will take about 15 minutes to set in. This cream will help make sure you don’t feel pain while the fillers are being injected.
Once your lips are numb, we will inject 1ml of lip filler into your lips. The injection sites may vary depending on your desired results, but they can include your cupid’s bow (the centre of your upper lip), the edges of the lips, or the corners of your mouth. You may feel a little pinching, but the process isn’t very painful. The needle will only penetrate up to 2.5mm into your skin, inserting the filler substance right below the surface.
Once the lip filler procedure is complete, we will monitor you for 15 minutes to ensure there is no excessive swelling or other side effects. After this, you are ready to go.
Aftercare for lip fillers:
A little bit of bleeding, bruising, and sensitivity is totally normal after any dermal filler treatments. The recovery time for lip injections can vary – swelling should go down within 12-24 hours, but it may take up to a week. In the meantime, you may apply a cool pack or ice to relieve discomfort.
Avoid wiping your lips, pursing your lips (e.g. drinking from a straw), doing strenuous exercise, or smoking for 24 hours after the treatment, as any movements around the lips can damage the fillers in this initial recovery period. You should also be careful when brushing your teeth and eating, and remember to drink plenty of water to help you heal faster. Stay away from makeup and lip balms for 24 hours after the treatment.
How long will lip fillers last?
The results from your lip filler treatment can last between 12-18 months. Our highly-reputable Juvederm hyaluronic acid fillers are biodegradable, meaning that the substance naturally breaks down and gets absorbed by the body over time.
Lip fillers are a great way to enhance the natural appearance of your lips for a plumper pout, without any invasive cosmetic surgery.
