Everything You Need to Know About RF Microneedling

what is RF microneedling

We’ve recently added an exciting new treatment to our roster – RF (radio frequency) microneedling. Here at Araya Beauty, we’re constantly striving to bring you the latest and best cosmetic treatments to enhance your overall beauty and well-being.

So what is RF microneedling? Radiofrequency microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that combines traditional microneedling with radio frequency waves to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This boosts collagen production, which can tighten your skin and reduce fine lines, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and pigmentation issues.

RF microneedling triggers deep skin healing at the dermal level, so it’s a versatile treatment that can combat a wide range of skin issues. Here’s what you need to know before you dive into this powerful beauty treatment.

What’s the Difference Between Microneedling and RF Microneedling?

Microneedling and RF microneedling are similar treatments that work from the same principles. Both treatments use tiny needles to create pin-prick wounds in your skin, with the intention of triggering your body’s natural skin healing response which is to increase the production of collagen.

Traditional microneedling devices only use these needles on a handheld roller device, which is similar to a derma-roller that you can use at home (although with slightly deeper needles).

An RF microneedling device, on the other hand, uses similar needles before sending radiofrequency energy through the wounds it has created. This RF energy adds an additional force to the treatment, allowing it to penetrate deeper layers of skin and maximise the skinhealing benefits.

While both treatments are safe and effective, RF microneedling produces quicker and more significant results than traditional microneedling

How RF Microneedling Works

RF (radiofrequency) microneedling is a type of collagen induction therapy, which means that it triggers your body’s natural processes of collagen production. Collagen is the protein responsible for skin strength and structure, and it’s a network of collagen fibers that creates the base layer of your skin.

Collagen is also responsible for healing wounds, which is the key to many forms of collagen induction therapy. When we create tiny controlled wounds in our skin, we can actually activate a natural healing response in our cells to produce more collagen. While these micro-wounds won’t cause us much damage on the surface, we can reap the rewards of extra collagen as it lifts, tones, and firms the skin.

5 Benefits of RF Microneedling

Here’s why we would recommend an RF microneedling treatment to our clients:

1. It Has Anti-Aging Effects

By speeding up the production of collagen, RF microneedling has a skin-tightening effect that can take years off your complexion. It’s most commonly used for this reason, to reduce skin laxity and firm up any loose skin on the face, neck, or other areas of the body.

It also improves skin elasticity, which in turn helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. We love that this treatment gives you smoother tighter skin without surgery – and without any painful recovery time.

2. It Reduces Pigmentation

We can also recommend a course of RF microneedling treatments for clients who have pigmentation issues. Whether it’s due to sun damage, environmental damage, or age, it’s common for the skin to develop uneven tones or darkened patches. Since RF microneedling works as a kind of skin resurfacing treatment, it can help fade away pigmentation and leave you with a brighter, more even skin tone.

3. It Fades Scars and Stretch Marks

RF microneedling can also help smooth out any uneven skin texture, which can really help with skin concerns like acne scars, stretch marks, and even cellulite. Studies have actually proven RF microneedling to be an effective scar reduction treatment, so it’s a great treatment for both the face and body for anyone struggling with scarring and uneven skin tone.

4. It Shows Visible Results After Just a Few Sessions

RF microneedling is a very effective treatment, offering quicker results than many others on the market. It’s also a well-rounded treatment, targeting multiple skin concerns in one go. This means that, with just a few treatments, we can improve your overall skin quality for a brighter and more youthful complexion.

5. It Involves Minimal Downtime

Even better, RF microneedling is a non-invasive treatment that’s suitable for all skin types. This means that you won’t have to spend much – if any – time at home recovering from it.

Radiofrequency Microneedling Treatments: Your Questions Answered

Does RF Microneedling Hurt?

No, an RF microneedling session shouldn’t hurt. This is because your aesthetician will apply a topical numbing cream to your skin before beginning the treatment. Here at Araya Beauty, we use a top-quality numbing agent and wait as long as it takes (this can be up to one hour) for it to fully set in before using any microneedling device on your skin.

How Long Does RF Microneedling Last?

How long your newly-rejuvenated skin lasts will depend on the intensity of the treatment session you receive, as well as the number of treatments you have received. On average, the effects of RF microneedling last 1–2 years. The best way to prolong your results is with a great skin care routine and reliable sun protection.

How Often Should You Do RF Microneedling?

It’s recommended that you do 3–4 rounds of RF microneedling to start with, spaced 3–8 weeks apart. You can then expect results to last for a year or two, after which you can have single maintenance treatments each year.

Of course, the frequency of your treatments may vary depending on the severity of your skin concerns and the results you’re looking to achieve. You can work with our trained team at Araya Beauty to create a specialised treatment plan that works for you.

Is RF Microneedling Safe?

Yes, RF microneedling is very safe and it has minimal side effects. After your session, you can expect a little redness and swelling which is a natural inflammatory response and it should clear up in 24–48 hours.

However, you may not be a good candidate for treatment if you have:

  • Cold sores or any other active skin infections
  • A severe skin disease
  • A history of poor wound healing
